Motel Zero proposes to refurbish a dilapidated beachside motel and create a boutique motel, ideal for weekend getaways, brand launches or fashion shoots. The existing building is to be 'blackwashed' and a new precast concrete wall will provide a sound barrier and updated facade whilst also evoking some of the existing motel geometry. Private balconies with sea views are to be created by refurbishing the existing external walkway and creating a new walkway to the rear of the property. A new cafe and bar, clad in recycled shipping paletts, is to be created at the edge of the property activating the rear frontage. The existing car parking area is to be repaved creating an internal courtyard ideal for private parties. The design is inspired by the cult surf movie Year Zero.
